East Lodge bucks the recession trend

Multi
award-winning hotel and restaurant, East Lodge of Rowsley, has reported one if
its most successful years ever, bucking the industry trend and continuing to
grow the core area of its business – namely weddings, restaurant and
accommodation.
Over
the past few months, East Lodge has increased its staffing levels by 40 percent,
across all areas of the business including front of house, waiters, and kitchen
staff.
Iain Hardman, director of East Lodge explains why East Lodge seems to have
ridden out the beginning of this recession relatively unscathed: “Our location,
overall offering & above all fantastic team mean that we have managed to
position East Lodge well in order to see us through what has been a tough 12–18
months.
“We have been lucky to have recently won many prestigious awards both locally
and nationally, and this in itself has attracted a great deal of interest. We
have found ourselves in a great position where we are investing further not
only in the aesthetics of the building and grounds but also in enhancing the
number and in particular the quality of the team here at the hotel.
“We
are extremely proud to be entering the next phase of this economic downturn
with good news and hope that our continued success is mirrored within the local
community; we are sure that tourism will feature highly on both the regional
and national agenda as a growth industry for Rowsley and the Peak District as a
whole.”
East Lodge is owned by the
Hardman family and has picked up a number of important accolades in recent
years; East Lodge has again achieved the coveted AA “Inspectors’ Choice”
accolade with three red stars for 2009/10, placing it within the top 150 hotels
in the UK.
East Lodge was named “Small Hotel of the Year 2008/09” at the East Midlands
Tourism awards, and then went on to become a silver Winner as “Hotel of the
Year 2009/10” at the national finals - renowned as the tourism Oscars. In 2007/08 East Lodge was named “Derbyshire Restaurant of the
Year” and also scooped the Condé Nast Johansens “Most excellent service” &
“Readers choice” awards.
