Blair Nimmo
Blair owned one of the largest independent electro-optic suppliers in Europe. He has now started BBN International to address the re-emerging fibre-optic markets of datacom, telecom, aerospace and sensors. An Electronic Engineer, Blair developed marine satellite communication and medical image analysis systems going on to develop a software business. BBN International is based in rural Shropshire and is committed to changing the way companies do business to the benefit of the environment.
View all articles by Blair NimmoThe new range of Fiber To The Office/Home (FTTx) CPE units has been designed to meet all requirements of modern fibre based access networks. There are three different variants available. One version comes with an integrated bridging converter, a second version with a 4 port switch and integrated gateway for the connection of an analogue telephone with SIP integration. The third version is delivered with an integrated CATV receiver.
With the integrated QoS features (IEEE802.3p/Q) it ensures time critical applications are handled with the required quality. The implemented “Q-in-Q VLAN Tunnelling” is a new standard feature in FTTX networks and avoids network transmit bottlenecks and to provide VOIP, IPTV and triple play within a high broadband service environment.
The switch version has four integrated 10/100Base-TX port to connect multiple end devices. Typical applications can be Internet, VoIP, Video on Demand and others. Additionally, there are two analogue telephone ports integrated. With SIP or H323 protocol both standard protocols for internet telephony are supported. The integrated firewall secures the connection to the World Wide Web.
The third version is delivered with an integrated receiver for CATV. The CATV signal is transmitted together with the IP Data over the same fibre pair by using a second optical wavelength (Wavelength Division Multiplexing – WDM). The
All devices are available with a wide range of optical interfaces, multimode, single mode and simplex fiber for distances up to 100 Km.
For the central distribution centres BBN International offers high port density multiport media converters. With these converters it is possible to provide the central fibre optic ports in a very cost effective way and with an extremely high port density. In combination with the Metro xWDM solutions, MICROSENS is able to supply the complete fibre optic solution for modern FTTH networks, starting from the end user side up to the backbone transmission systems.
