The Money Shop’s fundraising ball raises £700 for Help for Heroes
A ‘red tie and dress’ charity ball, organised by staff from payday loan provider The Money Shop’s stores in Glasgow, has raised £700 through ticket sales and donations for the Help for Heroes charity. Staff from the stores in Union Street, Renfield Street and Trongate got busy organising and selling tickets for the ball, which took place at the Stairway, Union Street on 2nd December. Guests donned their glad rags and danced the night away to songs by Glasgow blues band Whiskey River. Mark Farrell, Glasgow store manager and a member of Whisky River said, “Help for Heroes provides crucial support to our brave military personnel and their loved ones. Not only was it a fun-filled evening, but the funds raised mean that the night was a great success and we want to thank everyone for giving so generously.” Help for Heroes has raised more than £124m since its launch in October 2007. All funds raised to date have been allocated or spent on the practical support of those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty. The Money Shop has pledged to raise £250,000 for the charity by the end of 2012 following a nationwide vote by staff who appointed it the corporate charity of the year. Help for Heroes is working in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and The Royal British Legion, to deliver the Defence Recovery Capability – a tri-service initiative to provide comprehensive support to our wounded, injured those who become sick while serving. The charity is committing £132m, part of which includes the creation of five regional personnel recovery centres to provide on-going support for the wounded after rehabilitation at Headley Court. The centres provide training facilities, classrooms and gymnasiums with state-of-the-art sports equipment as well as opportunities to learn new skills, gain qualifications and make a smooth transition into civilian life.
